Vancouver: Home of the Stretchy Pants?
Okay, I have to admit - born and raised in beautiful British Columbia and really living and breathing West Coast culture can blind you from unseemingly style blunders.
Home of the bum-hugging stretchy yoga pants, I really wasn't too shocked to learn that Vancouver was near the top of the Worst Dressed Cities in the World (MSN) list. It's sad, but true. We don't see anything wrong with going out for a coffee with friends whilst sporting yoga pants - while in other cities, they're wearing casual blouses, cute crops and printed flats.
Although, I think as we grow older we mature in our dressing as well - now dressing more situationally specific than for comfort (plus, who says you can't have comfort AND style, right?). I'll admit, I used to fall victim to this before I knew better.
There's a time and place for stretchy yoga pants - at the gym, at yoga/pilates, or while on a run. But beyond that, there are always other options. Just sayin'.
Photo from hereLooking at the World Upside-Down
For the last few weeks, I’ve been going to an upside down power yoga class regularly – it sounds intimidating, I know, but it has a way of shedding a whole new perspective on things (figuratively AND literally speaking).
What am I taking off the mat every week?
- Not to take myself so seriously
- If it’s ok to lose balance off your hands, it should be the same for the feet
- People around you DO care
- There’s always help around if you ask
- Most people want to see you succeed
- My feet are tired! I really should be upside down more often!
There’s nothing more valuable for the soul than actually taking the time out of your day to do something that YOU love – and to do it for YOURSELF. You may be surprised with what you learn in doing so.
Stretchy Pants and Inner Peace
The term “Finding Yourself” is thrown around so much – that it’s easy to forget what that actually means. It’s a unique journey for each individual – no two self discovery journeys will ever be the same.
Me? I “found myself” in stretchy pants. No jokes. I spent five months in a far away land (here), wearing stretchy pants every day, searching for my Inner Zen self thru the art of yoga. Now I don’t think I’ve really found myself – but I know I’m on the right path for the journey – and I’m not gonna lie, it’s been a bumpy, but exciting time thus far!
And really, I can only be excited for what the future will hold!
