Red Carpet Fashion Frenzy

With awards season in full swing now, the Golden Globes last night was no exception when it comes to red carpet fashion do's and don't's. There were a lot of amazing gowns, jewels and smiles happening - and one of the biggest trends I noticed were the VERY red lips! You can't tell from the montage of pictures below - but red is back (and has been for a while now) and better than ever! The gowns were in subtle, natural cuts and colors (minus Angelina Jolie's sharp cut dress) - but all in all, a lovely catwalk of fabulous gowns.

My favorites? Reese Witherspoon and Jessica Alba stole the show - though they were only presenters, I think they looked so fabulous (it could also be there winning smiles, though)...

One thing I did notice was the lack of an engagement ring on the other Jessica's hand (Biel, that is)...

Vancouver: Home of the Stretchy Pants?

Okay, I have to admit - born and raised in beautiful British Columbia and really living and breathing West Coast culture can blind you from unseemingly style blunders.

Home of the bum-hugging stretchy yoga pants, I really wasn't too shocked to learn that Vancouver was near the top of the Worst Dressed Cities in the World (MSN) list. It's sad, but true. We don't see anything wrong with going out for a coffee with friends whilst sporting yoga pants - while in other cities, they're wearing casual blouses, cute crops and printed flats.

Although, I think as we grow older we mature in our dressing as well - now dressing more situationally specific than for comfort (plus, who says you can't have comfort AND style, right?). I'll admit, I used to fall victim to this before I knew better.

There's a time and place for stretchy yoga pants - at the gym, at yoga/pilates, or while on a run. But beyond that, there are always other options. Just sayin'.

What's in Stacy's Closet?

If you know me at all, you'll know that I have this crazy love for TLC's What Not to Wear. Not only do Stacy and Clinton crack me up coining phrases/words like "slut-astic" and "trashbag slut" and "what are you going for? hooker or pimp?" (I really could go on and on), but Stacy always look so amazing! Really!

So I'm counting my lucky stars that I happened to stumble upon "What's in Stacy's Closet?" tool on the What Not to Wear website - not only do they have pictures of everything that Stacy wore, but they have links if you want to buy it for yourself!

The Hunt is on...

...for the perfect wedding dress!

It’s a lot harder than it sounds. Seriously. I’ve gone to practically every shop in Vancouver – and even a few in the States and in Toronto… but there’s still nothing tickling my fancy! And the clock just keeps ticking… Luckily I still have some time since the reception that I’m wearing it at in a few months after the wedding – but it’s still stressful knowing that I have no idea what to wear.

To be honest, I’m extremely tempted to just buy a fabulous pair of shoes and work my dress around that (Really – not joking... mainly because I know I'd be able to find MORE than a few pairs of fabulous shoes).

Some wedding lines that I’m currently coveting over:

Any other suggestions?

Visions of Purple

Last night was Oscar night. Undoubtably the biggest night in Hollywood - and the end of all the award shows. And while the actually production may have a been a bit of a bore (yawn), the style was of course, not. The hot color yesterday (besides red, of course), was purple! It's such a royal color - and sometimes, I think it gets lost in the shuffle between blues and reds - and it never gets as much attention as it deserves. So really, I was happy last night - about all the purple.

From Mila in Elie Saab - it was just so chic and effortless (my personal fave)

To Scarlett in Dolce and Gabbana - sophisticated and classy (classic Scarlett style)

And the ever-glowing Natalie Portman in Rodarte - so flowy and beautiful

Dress Me Up Please!

Okay. If it's possible to fall head over heels in love with a fashion collection, I just may have fallen victim. Yes, people, I'm talking about the Rodarte Fall 2011 Collection... wait for me to finish *swooning*. It debuted at NY Fashion Week just yesterday.

I'm ready to wear this collection straight off the runway... actually. The neutral pallete, the flowy fabrics, the look of effortlessness... this list could really go on and on and on... and on...

I know that with Rodarte, you really do expect a lot - but this collection... Well, let's just say, it swept me right off my feet.

These Boots were made for Walking...

...and that's just what they'll do.

After many-a-countless trips to Toronto (in the Winter!), I came to the realization that if I want to protect myself from the elements (which are so much more angry over there), I would have to invest in some over-the-knee boots. Now I was under the assumption that because I'm short (5' 1.5"), that the longer boot style would just make me look stumpy... Boy, was I wrong!

I walked blindly into Nordstrom (the only place I buy shoes) and told the sales consultant, "Show me what you have for over-the-knee boots for short people." She was fabulous! The last pair she brought out were the most fabulous Frye boots. It was love at first sight - the leather was so soft, the chocolate brown was so rich - it really was everything you could ever want in a boot - and I really feel like they made me look taller! No jokes! And the price... well, let's just say that these are a fabulous investment.
