Change is Good

Over the past month, there have been so many changes in my life. I'm no longer living out the same comfortable cookie-cutter routine - and it's almost a little scary - but SO exciting at the same time. Changing roles at work, packing up to move to a new city. packing up to live out of a suitcase for almost a month, planning a wedding, partaking in weddings... it's really kind of crazy.

Is this what happens when you grow up? No more stagnant life? Or is this what happens when you're ambitious and follow your dreams/hopes/aspirations and hope they pay off?

I'm thinking it's the latter. Yup. Since I graduated University, I find myself getting more ambitious everyday, more motivated to succeed, working harder - and actually enjoying it. Really. I know it probably sounds super geeky of me (but really, if you didn't know I was a closet geek, that you probably don't know me at all).

So how am I coping with all the change in such a short period of time? Am I freaking out? Nope. I'm embracing it. There's nothing I can do to change it - and the fact that these changes are happening means that I'm growing both, professionally and personally - and why would I ever want to stop that?

Do what you love...

The idea itself is not novel... it's simple, but the act of actually doing what you love is a bit more complicated. As a child you're taught that work and fun are opposites that will never mesh... and now people are telling you, "do what you love"? Sounds like an oxymoron, eh?

So, just how are you supposed to do what you love?

Well, let me answer that question with another question: Do you wake up in the mornings excited for the day ahead and the challenges and opportunities that it brings?

If you do - FABULOUS! You're one of the lucky few!

If you don't - well, take comfort in the fact that you're not alone. But be proactive in the fact that you want to love what you do, and look for those opportunities. Here's your chance to discover:

  • Your Passion - What makes you feel alive?
  • Your Strengths - What are you naturally good at?
  • Your Value - The intersection of "what you're good at" and "what people will pay you for"
  • Your Commitment - Optimism! Stop with the "maybe oneday" and "I don't know" - Say YES to yourself and don't look back

Do what you love and the world will take notice. It's a journey.
